The Pennypack Trust is a privately owned nature preserve that offers a rich variety of landscapes and experiences, from gentle loops to challenging hikes. Start with the Chickadee Loop (0.8 mi.), an easy walk that packs meadows, old forest, and sweeping views into a short distance. For a bit more adventure, the Blue Stem Loop (1.6 mi.) winds through wetlands, grasslands, and woodlands before meeting the Pennypack Creek. The Coyote Loop (3.1 mi.) provides the most challenging route from headquarters, with rolling elevation changes and diverse creek side habitats.

For wider, bike and on-leash dog friendly paths, explore the Labrador Loop (2.0 mi.), a level gravel trail through riparian habitat and historic sites, or the Creek Trail (2.7 mi.), a varied path along the length of the Pennypack Trust that links to various County trails. Our trails offer excellent opportunities for bird watching, photography, tree and wildflower identification or simply enjoying the fresh air and solitude.

We welcome you to enjoy our trails, but ask that you follow trail rules and designated uses at each trail. We DO NOT allow dogs or bikes at our headquarters. Make sure you know the designated uses of each trail before you visit. These important guidelines are crucial to the protection of the natural beauty and diversity of the Pennypack Preserve, and will enhance the visiting experience of all hikers.

Trail use signs posted at each trailhead will assist you in using the trails properly, but please follow these general rules:

• No pets are permitted.
• No access for dogs or bikes from our main parking lot. Bicycling and dog walking are restricted to three multiple-use trails: Creek Trail, Pennypack Creek Trail, and Pennypack Parkway. Pets must be leashed at all times.
• No photo sessions (professional or private) with out prior written permission.
• No groups or organizations with out prior written permission.

During the last few years, the Trust’s stewardship crew has been constructing information kiosks at key trailheads, increasing trail maintenance, installing trail signage, and improving the surfaces of our heavily-used trails. So, proper use of the trails will help us continue to improve all visitors’ experiences and keep the Pennypack Preserve an “oasis” of natural beauty.

Our trails are open to the public 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to dusk. Feel free to drop by the office Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or the Visitor Center on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Closed on Sundays in July and August) to find out more about our trails.
